Evidence for a Very Slow X-ray Pulsar in 2s 0114]650 from Rossi X-ray T Iming Expl Orer All-sky Monitor Observations

چکیده
Rossi X-Ray T iming Explorer (RXT E) all-sky monitor (ASM) observations of the X-ray binary 2S 0114]650 show modulations at periods close to both the optically derived orbital period (11.591 days) and proposed pulse period (D2.7 hr). The pulse period shows frequency and intensity variability during the more than 2 years of ASM observations analyzed. The pulse properties are consistent with this arising from accretion onto a rotating neutron star, and this would be the slowest such period known. The shape of the orbital light curve shows modulation over the course of the entire orbit, and a comparison is made with the orbital light curve of Vela X-1. However, the expected phase of eclipse, based on an extrapolation of the optical ephemeris, does not correspond with the observed orbital minimum. The orbital period derived from the ASM light curve is also slightly longer than the optical period. Subject headings : pulsars : individual (2S 0114]650) È stars : neutron È X-rays : stars

Rxt E Observations of the X-ray Binary 2s 0114]650
Observations from the proportional counter array experiment on board the Rossi X-Ray T iming Explorer (RXT E) of the temporal and spectral properties of the high-mass X-ray binary 2S 0114]650 are reported. We Ðnd highly variable X-ray emission modulated at a period of 2.73 hr. The temporal results indicate that 2S 0114]650 is the slowest neutron star rotator presently known. Spectral analysis r...

متن کاملRossi X-ray T Iming Expl Orer Observation of Psr B0656]14
PSR B0656]14 was observed by the Rossi X-Ray T iming Explorer (RXT E) with the proportional counter array (PCA) and the high-energy X-ray timing experiment (HEXTE) for 160 ks during 1997 August 22ÈSeptember 3. No pulsation was Ðrmly found in the timing analysis, during which the contemporaneous radio ephemeris and various statistical tests were applied in searching for evidence of pulsation. A ...
متن کاملSuper - orbital Period in the High Mass X - ray Binary 2 S 0114 + 650
We report the detection of a stable super-orbital period in the high-mass X-ray binary 2S 0114+650. Analyses of data from the Rossi X-ray Timing Explorer (RXTE) All-Sky Monitor (ASM) from 1996 January 5 to 2004 August 25 reveal a super-orbital period of 30.7 ± 0.1 d, in addition to confirming the previously reported neutron star spin period of 2.7 h and the binary orbital period of 11.6 d. It i...

We report the results of radio and X-ray observations of the high mass X-ray binary 2S 0114+650, made with the Giant Meterwave Radio Telescope and the Rossi X-ray Timing Explorer respectively. No emission was detected at radio wavelengths. The neutral hydrogen column density was found to vary over the orbital period, while no variability over the the super-orbital period was observed. We discus...
